November, 2022.- A unique opportunity for the scientific community in Chile is the one offered by the first MIT-Chile Human Centered AI & Visualization Research Workshop, an event that will gather national and international experts, the academy and the private sector, around cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence, data visualization and natural language processing. This workshop will be hosted in two locations, Santiago and Concepción.
In Santiago, the workshop will be held in January 2023, at the Universidad Católica de Chile, and it is chaired by Belén Saldías, (MIT, Ph.D. Candidate); Maggie Hughes, as co-chair (MIT, Ph.D. Candidate), and Denis Parra, co-chair of the event, academic at the Computer Science Department UC and researcher at CenIA, iHealth and the Millennium Institute for Foundational Research on Data (IMFD).
“This workshop is a great opportunity to know more and discuss about topics that are emerging on the intersection between human-centered artificial intelligence and data visualization. One of the goals is to analyze, from the scientific perspective, how the work in these areas may have a positive social impact and also to understand how their applications affect us all”, states Belén Saldías.
Denis Parra shares that “this will be a very exciting workshop, we will be able to discuss such a variety of topics: how computers understand human language, complex data visualization and their relation with social systems, interpretability in artificial intelligence and the ethical considerations of our efforts, among many others”.
During the workshop lectures and tutorials, the attendees will learn more about the research carried out both at MIT and the universities and centers participating, and acquire practical skills. “It will be a workshop where we can exchange ideas, talk, and learn about the progress being made at MIT, CenIA, iHealth, and IMFD,” adds Belén Saldías.
The first MIT-Chile Human Centered AI & Visualization Research Workshop will take place in the Campus San Joaquín of the Universidad Católica de Chile, from January 10th to 13th, 2023. It is a collaborative initiative developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the MIT Global Experiences Center, the Universidad Católica de Chile, the National Center for Artificial Intelligence (CENIA), the Millennium Institute for Intelligent Healthcare Engineering (iHealth) and the Millennium Institute for Foundational Research on Data (IMFD).
