November, 2022.- The academic from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Concepción, José Fuentes, joins the Millennium Institute Foundational Research on Data as a young researcher. “It is a very interesting challenge, because I really like the multidisciplinarity focus that the institute has”, highlights the researcher. “Interdiscipline forces us to think a little more outside the box, so it is a very interesting intellectual work”, added to which is the strengthening of networks among people who work in computing in Chile, he adds.
The new IMFD researcher is an assistant professor at the Department of Informatics Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Concepción, where he also obtained his PhD in Computer Science in 2016. Between 2016 and 2019 he did a postdoctoral stay at the University of Chile, under the supervision of academic Gonzalo Navarro, in addition to various research stays in Finland and Spain. His areas of interest include compact data structures, text compression, and parallel algorithms.
