Registration for a new date of the Chilean Informatics Olympiad: Don't be left out!
A new opportunity to participate in the most important championship of competitive programming at national level: from November 12, the Chilean Informatics Olympiad, OCI, will be welcoming students from 7th grade to 4th grade who are interested in the challenging competition, which will be held in remote and online format.
"The OCI seeks to awaken interest in computing among students throughout the country," explains Catherine Espinoza, Executive Director of the Chilean Olympiad of Informatics (OCI), which was elected to be part of the International Committee of the International Olympiad of Informatics (OCI).She was elected to be part of the International Committee of the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) for the next two years. " We want to empower young talents, make the discipline known to groups that are underrepresented in the area of technology, with a special focus on reducing the gender gap in this area. We know that we have a lot of talent in Chile, we have already won international medals, so we want the OCI to be known and to attract more and more participants throughout the country", he emphasizes.
Aimed at schoolchildren, the OCI allows participants to develop skills of abstraction, creativity, algorithms, systematic thinking and problem solving, understanding the scientific nature of the discipline. In the activity, participants face a series of varied challenges that they must solve with programming. The top scorers will receive intensive training that will allow them to compete for a place to represent Chile in the International Informatics Olympiad, the most important student competition of its kind in the world.
The Chilean Informatics Olympiad has been held since 2013, organized by the Chilean Society of Computer Science, and is supported by the Millennium Institute Foundational Research on Data (IMFD), the Competitive Programming in Chile initiative (ProgcompCL) and various national and international technology companies.
The ICO is part of the outreach activities supported by the Millennium Science Initiative.
Competition details
The OCI consists of a series of competitions in which participants will have four hours to solve a set of 4 or more problems that will test their knowledge of Computer Science, algorithms, logic, mathematics, programming techniques, among others. Competitors will have to write programs to solve the problems, which will be evaluated through an online system, assigning points according to how good the solution submitted is.
The supported programming languages are C++ and Java.
This year, and given the national contingency due to the sanitary situation, the Olympiad will be held in a fully ONLINE and REMOTEand will consist of two phases to be held on the following dates:
First competition: December 11, 2021
Second competition: January 22, 2022
Those who register may participate in both competitions, or if they prefer, only in the second one.
The contents that will be evaluated in the different phases are described in the Syllabus. Syllabus of the competition.
To determine the winners of the winners of the National Olympiad the final score obtained by each participant will be considered.
The final score corresponds to the maximum score between:
- The weighting of 30% of the points obtained in phase 1 and 70% of the points obtained in phase 2, and
- The score obtained in phase 2.
The formula describing the calculation is as follows: Final score = maximum(P1 x 0.3 + P2 x 0.7, P2) with P1 being the score obtained in phase 1 and P2 being the score obtained in phase 2.
Example: If someone obtains 270 points in phase 1 and 250 points in phase 2, the final score would be maximum (270 x 0.3 + 250 x 0.7, 250), which gives a final score of 256 points.
Those who obtain the ten best scores as described above, will be able to participate in an intensive training that will allow the selection of the competitors who will represent the country in the International Informatics Olympiad.
