August, 2024.- Magdalena Saldaña, IMFD researcher, takes over as the new Director of Research and Creation of the Communications Faculty of the Universidad Católica de Chile, replacing Professor Sebastián Valenzuela, also IMFD researcher, who resigned from the position to devote himself completely to his teaching and research work in the International Panel on the Information Environment (IPIE) project. The researcher expressed her gratitude for the trust placed in her: “For me, assuming this position is a tremendous honor and a great responsibility. Sebastián Valenzuela did an incredible job in the last six years, and the Directorate is very organized and with solid links within the university.”
In her new role, Magdalena Saldaña will oversee three major areas: faculty research and creation, the PhD program in Communication Sciences and the faculty’s academic journal, Cuadernos.info. In relation to these challenges, she commented, “I am very proud of what the FCom has achieved in these three areas, and the idea is to continue growing and strengthening these areas.” She also stressed the importance of maintaining the direct link between the Faculty and the VRI in research and creation.
Saldaña’s professional trajectory has been key to his appointment. Since her arrival at UC in 2017, she has published 29 academic articles and has gained experience in applying for research projects. Likewise, her role as associate editor of the academic journal Digital Journalism has been an invaluable school: “I trust that this trajectory will give me the necessary tools to perform in the Directorate in the best possible way”.
Magdalena Saldaña thanked the community of the School of Communications for their support and emphasized her willingness to learn in this new stage: “My experience in management positions is limited, so I am excited about the opportunity to learn and develop in a new area for me. I am happy to receive all the advice and suggestions that you can give me”.
