September 2022.- With a wide call, a new Research Seminar of theMillennium Institute for Foundational Research on Data was held. Federico Olmedo, an academic from the Department of Computer Science at the University of Chile and a young IMFD researcher, presented his research “Differential Privacy: how to make privacy and data mining compatible.”
During the presentation, it was revealed that the idea of differential privacy is the ability to obtain useful information, while safeguarding sensitive or confidential data, such as, for example, medical data or the electoral roll. By this it is meant that a data mining analysis would not allow more specific information to be revealed.
Professors, researchers and students had the opportunity to ask questions, complement information and thus generate an interdisciplinary instance, being one of the main objectives that each IMFD Research Seminar seeks to achieve.
