Colloquium - InES Gender Project Transdisciplinary Perspectives on Artificial Intelligence: Ethics, Inclusion and Diversity

The Institute of Mathematical and Computational Engineering (IMC) and the Institute of Applied Ethics (IEA) of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, in conjunction with the National Center for Artificial Intelligence (CENIA), the Millennium Institute Foundational Research on Data (IMFD) and the Association for Ethics in Data and Artificial Intelligence (AEDIA), are pleased to invite undergraduate and graduate students from Chilean institutions of higher education to the colloquium "Transdisciplinary Perspectives in Artificial Intelligence: Ethics, Inclusion and Diversity".

This colloquium is part of the InES Gender 210011 project - Diagnosis with gender perspectives on Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in health in Chile, led by researchers Jocelyn Dunstan and Gabriela Arriagada, which aims to examine the application of AI in the Chilean health system from a gender perspective, identifying potential risks and adverse impacts. This project arises in response to the growing interest in AI both nationally and internationally, especially in the field of health, and seeks to make a diagnosis from the ethics and responsibility of data, asking the question: do we have enough elements to establish inclusive AI in our country?

This project contextualizes the colloquium by highlighting the importance of addressing the ethical challenges related to AI, especially in critical areas such as health. With the rapid evolution of AI, discussion and evaluation of its ethical implications is critical. As AI systems become integrated into various areas of society, the need for inclusive development becomes increasingly evident.

The relevance of these ethical debates transcends mere theoretical considerations, as they directly impact the lives of individuals and communities. The adverse effects of AI systems can exacerbate existing inequalities and perpetuate stereotypes, underscoring the critical need for ethical frameworks that prioritize inclusion and diversity.

This colloquium is presented as an instance to deepen these crucial debates on the ethics of AI from an inclusive perspective. Through a transdisciplinary dialogue, we aim to explore strategies to foster diversity and inclusion in AI development.
