Democracy and Ecology High School
📆January 13 and 17, 2025
Can democracy flourish while we destroy nature? This is the question posed by the Millennium Institute for Research on Violence and Democracy (VioDemos) and the Institute of Ecology and Biodiversity (IEB) to promote dialogue and learning and therefore we invite you to the first Democracy and Ecology High School to be held between January 13 and 17, 2025.
The purpose of the Democracy and Ecology High School is to contribute to the formation of student leaders in democracy and ecology in the Metropolitan Region, so that they can promote initiatives in their school or territorial communities or networks of activists.
After participating in the school, it is expected that young people will be able to collaborate with other secondary school students in the MR, have an informed and critical voice regarding their environment, put solidarity into practice to mobilize projects and apply knowledge about the local and national reality.
What is it about and where will it be held?
This is a free summer school that will be held in person for high school students, in intensive mode, with a strong emphasis on dialogue, practical workshops and reflective instances, which will focus on the work of the participating students' own projects.
The teaching team will be made up of researchers from the IEB and VioDemos centers, as well as various professionals, artists and activists specially trained for this initiative.
The School will run from Monday, January 13 to Friday, January 17 between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm and will include breakfast and lunch for all participants, who will have to arrive on their own at the San Joaquin Campus located at Av. Vicuña Mackenna 4860, Macul.
During the High School week, participants will work on their proposals and at the end of the school, projects will be selected for funding and follow-up for six months.
Who can apply?
The call to the Secondary School will be open until Friday, November 15 to students from 1st to 4th grade of Secondary Education from public and private schools in the Metropolitan Region who participate in student centers, environmental groups, feminist or LGBTIQA+ rights collectives, soccer or other sports teams, groups that promote access to ICTs, collectives for the rights of indigenous peoples or for the rights of people with disabilities, among others.
