General registrations for ChileWiC 2024 are now open!

October 2024 – We are pleased to announce the opening of registration for ChileWiC 2024, the XII Women in Computing Gathering. This event is a unique opportunity to share, learn, and connect with women and young people from the world of computer science and computing.

Throughout the event, you will be able to attend talks given by women leaders in the technology field, who will share their experiences and knowledge. You will also be able to learn about the projects presented by students in competition, showcasing innovation and emerging talent in the field.

The Millennium Institute for Foundational Research on Data (IMFD) supports the organization of this event, which actively seeks to reduce the gender gap in the field of computing in our country.

In Chile, only 25% of those who enroll in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics degree programs are women, and undergraduate women graduates in these fields reach only 7%. This is also reflected in the field of scientific research: of the total number of researchers in the country, 35% are women, according to the Gender Snapshot study by the Ministry of Science.

The study analyzing the gender gap in academia and research, presented by Observa of the Ministry of Science in 2021, also reveals the salary gap in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), reaching a 16% difference between men and women.
