Hugo Rojas

Director of the Department of Legal Sciences and Professor of Sociology of Law and Transitional Justice at the Faculty of Law of the Universidad Alberto Hurtado, and researcher at the Interdisciplinary Public Policy Program (CIPP) of the same university. Adjunct Professor of Political Sociology and Transitional Justice at the Instituto de Ciencia Política UC and of Human Rights and Transitional Justice at the U. de California Study Abroad Program. Researcher at Viodemos and collaborating researcher at IMFD.

PhD in Sociology from the University of Oxford. PhD in Law (Rule of Law and Global Governance) from the University of Salamanca. Master’s in Law, Anthropology and Society from the London School of Economics. Master’s in Management and Public Policy from the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez. Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. His research focuses on human rights, transitional justice, historical archives, and the modernization of justice.

He is the author of El Principio de la Multiculturalidad (2002) and Past Human Rights Violations and the Question of Indifference: The Case of Chile (2022), co-author of Litigación Penal Estratégica (2021), Human Rights and Transitional Justice in Chile (2022) and Cómo escribir ensayos: Manual de investigación jurídica y socio-jurídica (2024), and co-editor of Derechos Humanos y Libertad Sindical (2009) and Teoría Crítica del Derecho y Justicia Social en las Américas (2024).
