Data Science in Health, a podcast by Jocelyn Dunstan Escudero
September, 2023. How to bring the world of health closer to People who are being trained in engineering? This was the challenge that gave rise to the podcast Data Science in Health, by IMC and DCC UC academic Jocelyn Duntsan Escudero, which was released on the Spotify channel of the Millennium Institute Foundational Research on Data at the beginning of September.

"I was very concerned about how to get my students to get to know the different specialties that exist in the health area, because I feel that this knowledge, this closeness, is what makes it possible to generate truly interdisciplinary work," explains the researcher. The podcast managed to position itself in its first weeks among the 100 most listened to in Chile on Spotify, a platform on which it is available free of charge to all audiences.

In this space, the researcher from the Millennium Institute Foundational Research on Data, talks with specialists from different health areas: anesthesiology, medical informatics, nutrition, emergency medicine, dermatology, are some of the first specialties addressed. "I hope to be able to cover the different areas, and also to go beyond the medical specialties and to be able to add conversations with other health professionals, medical technology, nursing or kinesiology. I have already scheduled a couple of interviews outside Santiago," he explains.
For the IMFD, this type of initiative supports the dissemination of the important interdisciplinary work carried out by the institute's researchers. "We know that for many People, data science sounds like something distant and unknown. This type of initiative helps us to make people understand that working with data is very relevant for our society, and that it is present in the most diverse areas, as in this case, to learn from the perspective of data in the area of health and medicine," explains Camila Díaz, executive director of the IMFD.
The podcast already has 11 episodes available on Spotifyand will be complemented with new episodes in the following weeks.
