Outstanding participation of IMFD researchers and students in ICML 2024
DCC UC academics and IMFD researchers Hans Löbel and Denis Parra traveled to Vienna, Austria, together with DCC UC academics Rodrigo Toro and Alvaro Soto to the International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML), the main meeting of professionals dedicated to the advancement of the branch of artificial intelligence known as machine learning .
ICML is recognized worldwide for presenting and publishing cutting-edge research on all aspects of machine learning used in closely related areas such as artificial intelligence, statistics and data science, as well as important application areas such as computer vision, computational biology, speech recognition and robotics.

ICML is one of the fastest growing artificial intelligence conferences in the world. Participants at ICML span a wide range of backgrounds, from academic and industrial researchers, to entrepreneurs and engineers, to graduate students and postdocs.
The research presented was:
– El paper “Hyperbolic Optimizer as a Dynamical System”, del académico e investigador (IMFD-Cenia) Hans Löbel (RL1) y el estudiante de doctorado, Nicolás Alvarado, fue seleccionado para ser presentado como póster científico.
– El paper “On the Unexpected Effectiveness of Reinforcement Learning for Sequential Recommendation”, resultado de la investigación del estudiante de Magister del DCC Alvaro Labarca Silva, quien fue co-guiado por los profesores e investigadores Denis Parra (IMFD, Cenia e IHealth) y Rodrigo Toro (Cenia).

– El paper “Towards Understanding Why Group Robustness Methods Work”, publicado por Álvaro Soto (director de Cenia) y Julio Hurtado en conjunto con los estudiantes de doctorado Nicolás Álvarado y Alain Raymond fue seleccionado para ser presentado en el Workshop Latin XAI.
