Outstanding participation of IMFD researchers and students in ICML 2024

DCC UC academics and IMFD researchers Hans Löbel and Denis Parra traveled to Vienna, Austria, together with DCC UC academics Rodrigo Toro and Alvaro Soto to the International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML), the main meeting of professionals dedicated to the advancement of the branch of artificial intelligence known as machine learning .

ICML is recognized worldwide for presenting and publishing cutting-edge research on all aspects of machine learning used in closely related areas such as artificial intelligence, statistics and data science, as well as important application areas such as computer vision, computational biology, speech recognition and robotics.

ICML is one of the fastest growing artificial intelligence conferences in the world. Participants at ICML span a wide range of backgrounds, from academic and industrial researchers, to entrepreneurs and engineers, to graduate students and postdocs.

The research presented was:

- The paper "Hyperbolic Optimizer as a Dynamical System", by academic and researcher (IMFD-Cenia) Hans Löbel (RL1) and PhD student Nicolás Alvarado, was selected to be presented as a scientific poster.
- The paper "On the Unexpected Effectiveness of Reinforcement Learning for Sequential Recommendation", the result of research by DCC Master student student Alvaro Labarca Silva, who was co-guided by professors and researchers Denis Parra (IMFD, Cenia and IHealth) and Rodrigo Toro (Cenia).
Available:
- The paper "Towards Understanding Why Group Robustness Methods Work", published by Alvaro Soto (Cenia director) and Julio Hurtado together with PhD students Nicolás Álvarado and Alain Raymond was selected for presentation at the Latin XAI Workshop.
