Academic Training Department holds successful First IMFD Student Meeting
Santiago, December 2021. For the Millennium Institute Foundational Research on Data, students are one of the most important pillars of cutting-edge research development, as well as projects that promote interdisciplinarity. To strengthen the relationship with all students, the IMFD's Research and Academic Training Department held the First IMFD Student Meeting on Thursday, December 16, at the UC Innovation Center.
One of the objectives of the activity was to raise awareness of the development opportunities available to students at the Institute, such as access to scholarships and funding for innovative interdisciplinary research projects, internships and work placements in the Directorate of Innovation and Technology Transfer, and training as science communicators and disseminators.

"At IMFD, we believe that students are just as important as researchers, which is why we have created various initiatives to effectively systematize their participation. This translates into concrete development opportunities that they have access to as part of the institute," says Bárbara Peñafiel, Director of Research and Academic Training (DAC) at IMFD.
The activity presented the avenues for participation. For example, students can contribute to strengthening interdisciplinarity by submitting ideas and initiatives to the DAC. This unit will select some projects and provide funding to carry them out. In addition, the Directorate of Innovation and Technology Transfer offered the possibility of accessing internships and work experience in this unit, through which students can learn about and work on projects applied in the public and private sectors. Finally, the possibility of collaborating with data science outreach projects implemented by the Communications and Outreach Department was discussed , such as talks, workshops, or videos aimed at the general public, with access to training on how to communicate science effectively.
