Let's talk about data: the fundamentals of artificial intelligence, the new IMFD podcast with Ciencia Pública
The value of research and working with data and data science: this is what the Millennium Institute Foundational Research on Data new podcast seeks to address. It was selected from among the applications for funding from Public Science funds and will be directed by IMFD communications coordinator Paula Mónica Silva, together with IMFD researcher Jocelyn Dunstan Escudero, academic IMC–DCC UC, and will be produced by renowned podcast creator Davor Mimica (Democracia en LSD, Democratic Code, Project 50, The Year D).
In 10 chapters, different examples of how data science is being used in Chile will be addressed, thechallenges, and how contributions from national academia are guiding and seeking practical solutions to the problems facing our society: education, health, sustainability, art, democracy, security, and governance are some of the topics in which we will be reviewing how data management has contributed and is currently changing the way those in these areas work.
Focusing on local radio stations
"One of our main objectives at IMFD Communications is to reach People are difficult to access with this content. That is why we decided to create partnerships with local radio stations, with a special emphasis on finding areas where radio is a highly valued means of communication for listeners," says podcast director Paula Mónica Silva. With this, the IMFD focuses on providing broad national coverage in these media, with the aim of expanding the traditional audiences of online podcasts.
Public Science Program
Public Science is a program run by the Science and Society Division of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge, and Innovation. Its goal is to promote the socialization of knowledge through actors and institutions. The Minister of Science, Technology, Knowledge, and Innovation, Aisén Etcheverry, highlights the importance of this investment: "The projects in our Public Science program, in its three lines, play a fundamental role: bringing science, technology, and knowledge closer to society, communities, and cultural centers in different ways. This is important because the promotion of critical thinking is key to the challenges we face today. We need citizens who ask many questions and seek answers, for example, when it comes to technologies such as artificial intelligence. And we know that critical thinking is strongly developed with the tools that science provides us."
Creating scientifically based content
This new podcast joins the family of podcasts produced by the IMFD communications team: Ellas Programan, which seeks to raise awareness of the work of women in the fields of computing and STEM; Data Science with Jocelyn Dunstan, in which the researcher selects different topics to discuss with experts she interviews; Nuestra Memoria, a special program dedicated to this project on data science and human rights in Chile; The Space of Writing, in partnership with Urdimbre , we seek to share experiences, challenges, and ways of doing academic writing. We also highlight the work of our researcher Sergio Toro in A mi nunca me han encuestado, the podcast he produces together with Paulina Valenzuela, which is dedicated to the analysis of public opinion and surveys.
