Let's talk data: the basics of artificial intelligence, IMFD's new podcast with Public Science

The value of research and work with data and data science: this is what the Millennium Institute 's newFoundational Research on Data podcast seeks to address, which was selected from among applications for funding from Public Science and will be led by IMFD communications coordinator Paula Mónica Silva, together with IMFD researcher Jocelyn Dunstan Escuderoacademic IMC-DCC UCand will be produced by the outstanding podcast creator Davor Mimica (Democracy in LSD, Democratic Codeo, Project 50, The Year D).

In 10 chapters, we will address different examples of how data science is being used in Chile, thechallenges and how the contributions of the national academy manage to guide and seek practical solutions to the problems facing our society: education, health, sustainability, art, democracy, security and governance are some of the topics in which we will be reviewing how data management has contributed and is currently changing the way of working of those who are in these areas.

Focusing on local radios

"One of our main objectives from IMFD communications is to reach People who are difficult to access with this content, which is why we thought of creating partnerships with local radio stations, with special emphasis on finding areas where radio stations are a very validated means of communication for their listeners," says the podcast's director, Paula Mónica Silva. With this, the IMFD focuses on providing broad national coverage in these media, with the aim of expanding the traditional audiences of online podcasts.

Public Science Program

Public Science is a program of the Science and Society Division of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation. Its objective is to promote the socialization of knowledge through actors and institutions. The Minister of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, Aisén Etcheverry, highlights the importance of this investment: "The projects of our Public Science program, in its three lines, fulfill a fundamental role: to bring science, technology and knowledge closer to society, communities and cultural centers in different ways. It is important because the promotion of critical thinking is key to the challenges we are facing today. We need a citizenry that asks itself many questions, that seeks answers, for example, in the face of technologies such as artificial intelligence. And this critical thinking, as we know, is strongly developed with the tools provided by science".

Creating science-based content

This new podcast joins the family of podcasts generated by the IMFD communications team: Ellas Programanwhich seeks to showcase the work of women in the areas of computing and STEM; Data Science with Jocelyn Dunstanin which the researcher selects different topics with experts that she interviews; Our Memorya special dedicated to this project on data science and human rights in Chile; The Writing Spacein which, in alliance with Urdimbre seeks to share experiences, challenges and ways of doing academic writing.
