IMFD presents its new podcast and radio program Hablemos de Datos, the Foundations of Artificial Intelligence – Millennium Institute Foundational Research on Data

Spreading science-based content created at the institute to localities throughout the country: that is one of the goals of the new podcast and radio program Hablemos de Datos, los fundamentos de la inteligencia artificial, which the Millennium Institute for Foundational Research on Data (IMFD) has just launched, with funding from the Ciencia Pública program of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation.

For the IMC-DCC UC academic, Jocelyn Dunstan Escudero, academic director of the project, “Hablemos de Datos seeks to democratize knowledge in an engaging and approachable way. We aim to be on all listening platforms, but also on local radio stations from Arica to Porvenir. For me, it is common to learn from podcasts in English, or through discussions in class with my students in the artificial intelligence course, but I deeply believe in the value of leaving knowledge open to the public”, she highlights.

“At IMFD, we decided that the media crisis could be an opportunity. And that is how we started working with podcasts, a format that allows us to share knowledge with our audiences. In this project, the boost given by the Ciencia Pública program is allowing us to reach much further, thanks to a series of agreements with local radio stations”, explained Paula Mónica Silva, project director, at the forum held during the launch.

In the panel discussion, the participants shared insights on the challenges that data science and artificial intelligence pose for our country. The event was attended by Jocelyn Dunstan Escudero, host of the podcast and academic director of the project; Davor Mimica, host of the program and director of Democracia en LSD; the academic from Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, Claudia López; and Hernán Sarmiento, director of the Innovation area at IMFD.

The podcast will feature 10 episodes addressing how data science and artificial intelligence are changing sectors and areas of work in our country, such as health, education, art, communications, sustainability, among others. “We start by situating what data science and artificial intelligence are, and then talk with Professor Claudia López of Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María about human-centered artificial intelligence and the population’s level of trust in it. As with each episode, it ends with a reflection on what was discussed.”

The podcast already has its first episode available at hablemosdedatos.cl, and starting next week it will air on local radio stations:
