Barbara Poblete

Bárbara Poblete is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computing (DCC) at the University of Chile and an adjunct researcher at Millennium Institute Foundational Research on Data IMFD). She holds a PhD from Pompeu Fabra University in Spain and was a researcher at Yahoo Labs for six years, where she conducted industry-applied research. She currently works in the areas of data mining, social network analysis, and web information retrieval. Since 2011, her research has focused on the issue of credibility in social networks. She was the first in the world to address this topic and is widely recognized by the international scientific community. Her work has been featured in prominent media outlets such as Scientific American Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Slate Magazine, The Huffington Post, and BBC News, among others. She has more than 80 top-level international scientific publications and is currently co-chair of The Web Conference 2021 track on Web Mining and Content Analysis.
