IMFD Participates in Program for the Exchange of Experiences in Digital Transformation in Health

The director of the Millennium Institute Foundational Research on Data (IMFD), Juan Reutter, together with the executive director of the IMFD, Camila Díaz, took part in the first day of the Exchange of Experiences in Digital Health Transformation program, organized by the Ministry of Health and the World Bank, to learn about Chile’s experience in digital health transformation and exchange knowledge.

The meeting brought together delegations from the province of Buenos Aires in Argentina, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic, including Yudelka Batista, Vice Minister of Strengthening and Development at the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance of the Dominican Republic.

During the presentation of the Millennium Institute Foundational Research on Data, the work carried out in the health field was showcased, both in the academic sphere and in innovation and technology transfer, in the talk “Data science applied to health: from the origin of data to its use and social impact.” For the IMFD director, “it is a great honor to have been invited, since we were the only research center that took part in the event. We had the opportunity to present the work carried out at the IMFD, which provides concrete tools, based on data science, adapted to the needs of our country.”

The event was opened by the Acting Minister of Health, Bernardo Martorell, who noted that “we have many challenges in digital transformation which, if we can align them, will significantly benefit our users, professionals, and health teams. That’s why we are convinced that a proactive agenda on this issue, on this transformation, is essential,” he said

For his part, Gianluca Cafagna, Senior Health Specialist at the World Bank, emphasized that digital transformation is essential to continue advancing toward universal health coverage in Latin America and the Caribbean. “Countries share the vision of digitally transforming their health systems, and in this context, the exchange of experiences is key to promoting progress. We thank Chile for hosting us and sharing the lessons it has learned from working for several years on its digital health roadmap.”

The delegations will tour various health facilities across the country, and afterward, a summary of the program’s learnings and the many experiences shared will be compiled to create a projection of the next steps needed to transform the healthcare landscape of each country.
