The Alberto Mendelzon Room houses the IMFD space in the Departamento de Ciencias de la Computación at Universidad de Chile
March 2023.- The Millennium Institute for Foundational Research on Data (IMFD) is making the Alberto Mendelzon room, located in the Department of Computer Science at Universidad de Chile, available to its researchers, students, and teams as an IMFD space.
“Collaborative and interdisciplinary work, bringing together the leading national researchers who are experts in data, is what defines our institute,” explained Camila Díaz Foxon, executive director of the IMFD, at the room’s inauguration. “Universidad de Chile is one of our host institutions, and this space seeks to have our teams integrate and share their capabilities. This is what we are interested in strengthening, as well as consolidating our presence in the Department of Computer Science at Universidad de Chile.

The room is named after Alberto Mendelzon, one of the pioneering scientists in the foundations of relational databases and an international leader in database theory. At the inauguration, IMFD researcher and DCC U. Chile academic Claudio Gutiérrez spoke about Mendelzon’s close relationship with Chilean scientists, highlighting him as a great mentor and friend, who visited our country and was an important driver of studies and research in the field carried out in Chile. In this account, the IMFD researcher recounts the adventures of his stay in the country.

The space, located on the second floor of the west tower of Beauchef 851, is available to researchers, students, and the IMFD team.
