Arduino Quest 2023

June, 2023.- Niñas Pro together with the Millennium Institute Foundational Research on Data (IMFD) are opening registrations for a new version of the Arduino Quest, in which participants can learn to program in Arduino and build a project with electronic components.

This is a completely free and online workshop, and those who participate and persevere throughout the course will have an Arduino board at their disposal to learn to program them and unleash their creativity. The workshop consists of 3 phases: theoretical classes, a simulation project, and finally, the creation of a real project with electronic components. These phases are consecutive, meaning participants move on to the next phase only after successfully completing the previous one; it is structured to provide a solid learning experience.

Arduinos are open-source electronic creation boards, based on free hardware and software available for creators and developers to use. With them, you can create and bring to life ideas for technological applications, such as automation and robotics. Niñas Pro began in 2016 as a university activity carried out by a group of women students from the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences of the Universidad de Chile to increase girls’ interest in programming, actively seeking to ensure that all girls in Chile experience science and technology free of gender stereotypes. Today, the organization is established as a non-profit association and has a network of more than 80 volunteers distributed across several regions of the country, with the support of different universities, companies, and organizations interested in reducing the gender gap in STEM.

The Arduino Quest and the IMFD’s collaboration with Niñas Pro are part of the IMFD Outreach to External Community initiatives, funded by ANID, in which the IMFD actively participates to promote the reduction of the gender gap in STEM.

It is worth noting that in Chile, women who graduate with undergraduate degrees in STEM make up only 7%. They also represent 35% of research personnel and their salaries are up to 23% lower than those of men, according to the second edition of the Gender Radiography study by the Ministry of Science and Knowledge.

Spots for the Arduino Quest 2023 are limited and registration is open until June 24, selected students will be notified the week of June 26, and the workshop will take place from July 7 to 28.
