StartUp Science kickoff: the challenge of impacting industry through research
Following a productive meeting between IMFD Innovation and IMFD researchers, the Millennium Institute Foundational Research on Data workon the StartUp Science project, awarded for 2025.
The main topics discussed at the meeting were how to put the research and technological development produced by IMFD researchers at the service of society, with particular emphasis on making available the development of Millenium DB, one of the main projects that have been developed under the auspices of the institute.
"We brought together the IMFD Research and Innovation departments to coordinate our capabilities and thus begin mapping out the paths that will allow us to move from data processing, in which IMFD researchers have extensive experience, to developments for a productive environment, which is the area on which the Innovation Department focuses," explained Hernán Sarmiento, IMFD Innovation Director.

The more than 20 attendees shared their experiences in implementing systems in different environments and areas. "Our goal is to achieve something that we don't have much reference for in Chile: to offer society a technology that we are building at the IMFD based on the research we do at the institute. This helps us strengthen the virtuous circle we already have, in which academia contributes with state-of-the-art solutions to problems through efficient implementations, while the technology transfer area creates the connection with early adopters," said Juan , director of the IMFD.
