Kick off of StartUp Science: the challenge of impacting industry from research

With a productive meeting between the IMFD Innovation area and IMFD researchers, the Millennium Institute Foundational Research on Data kicked off the workof the StartUp Science project, awarded for 2025.

The main topics discussed at the meeting were how to put the research and technological development produced by IMFD researchers at the service of society, with particular emphasis on making available the development of Millennium DB, one of the main projects that have been developed under the institute's auspices.

"We brought together the IMFD Research and Innovation areas to coordinate our capabilities, and thus, begin to trace the routes that will allow us to go from data processing, in which IMFD researchers have extensive experience, to developments for a productive environment, which is the space in which the Innovation Directorate has its focus," explained Hernán Sarmiento, IMFD Innovation Director.

The more than 20 attendees shared their experiences in implementing systems in different environments and areas. "Our goal is to achieve something that we do not have much reference in Chile: to offer society a technology that we are building at IMFD from the research we do at the institute. This helps us to strengthen the virtuous circle we already have, in which from the academy we contribute with the state of the art, with ways of solving problems through efficient implementations; and on the other hand, the technology transfer area creates the connection with the first users", said Juan Reutter, director of the IMFD.
