V Research Seminar: “Compact Data Structures”
June 2022.- With broad participation, a new Research Seminar was held at the offices of the Millennium Institute for Foundational Research on Data (IMFD). The talk “Compact Data Structures” by Gonzalo Navarro, IMFD researcher and academic at the Department of Computer Science of the Universidad de Chile, presented advances in compact database structures, which the researcher analyzes in his work.
The talk highlighted the challenges of memory devices and how they are becoming increasingly slow compared to the CPU over time, as well as the need to use compact data structures so that the space they occupy is close to the amount of information they contain.
During the Q&A session, an engaging feedback dynamic and enriching debate took place. These seminars are coordinated by IMFD’s Academic and Research Directorate, to promote exchange among researchers from different areas of the Institute’s work.
