“We Want Humans to Be in Charge”: Responsible Artificial Intelligence

August, 2023.- “We want humans to be in charge,” says Ricardo Baeza-Yates, research director at the Institute for Experiential IA Northeastern University, DCC U. Chile academic, and IMFD researcher, at the start of the talk Responsible Artificial Intelligence, Challenges and Recommendations. “We don’t want humans’ job to be standing somewhere, verifying data, but rather being in charge: in control of the technology,” he emphasizes.

In the presentation –coordinated by Felipe Bravo Marquez, DCC U. Chile academic and IMFD and Cenia researcher- Ricardo Baeza-Yates spoke about the main challenges in the field of artificial intelligence, such as ethics, trust, and data bias. Through a series of real-life examples, the expert presented each of the situations in which human judgment is essential in handling artificial intelligence information and data.

The activity, which had the participation of nearly 50 people, is part of the presentations coordinated by the research group Representations for Learning and Language (RaLeLa), of the Departamento de Ciencias de la Computación de la Universidad de Chile (DCC U. Chile), which seek to provide a broad and critical perspective on the development and possibilities of language models, specifically in relation to the latest technological advances in the field of artificial intelligence.
