Three IMFD researchers were honored by UC Engineering at the San Agustín Ceremony

At its annual ceremony, the UC School of Engineering honored Jocelyn Dunstan, Hans Löbel, and Juan Reutter. The honors included two promotions to the rank of associate professor, an award for engineering education, and a distinction for cutting-edge research and impact.

On August 14, as part of the traditional St. Augustine Ceremony, the School of Engineering at the Catholic University (UC) presented its annual awards to the academic community. Among the distinguished " People " are three researchers from the IMFD, affiliated with the Department of Computer Science (DCC UC), the Institute of Mathematical and Computational Engineering (IMC UC), and the Department of Transportation and Logistics Engineering.

Jocelyn Dunstan and Hans Löbel were promoted to the ranks of associate professor and associate professor, respectively. This promotion recognizes their track record in research, teaching, and student mentoring over the years.

In addition to his promotion, Dunstan received the “Engineering Education” award for creating the general education course “Artificial Intelligence: Science and Society, ” an initiative that brings discussions about AI to students from various disciplines.

Löbel, for his part, was also recognized for his 10 years of service at the school.

Meanwhile, Juan Reutter, director of the IMFD and a faculty member at the DCC UC and the IMFD UC , received the 2026 Frontier Research and Impact Award for his contributions to the advancement of innovative research at the national and international levels.

The awards were presented at the San Agustín Ceremony, during which the dean of UC’s School of Engineering, Loreto Valenzuela, also presented her annual report.
