We invite you to attend the talk «Vector Search on Columnar Storage», given by Peter Boncz, Senior Researcher at CWI (Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica) and professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Peter Boncz is internationally recognized for his contributions to database systems: he is the creator of the open-source columnar system MonetDB, co-founder of Vectorwise—a pioneer in vectorized query execution and lightweight data compression, techniques now widely adopted in analytical databases—and leader of the Database Architectures group at CWI, from which DuckDB originated. In recent years he has collaborated closely with Databricks and MotherDuck.
In his talk, he will present a preview of his group’s ongoing work on vector search on columnar storage, optimized vector ingestion, specialized vector indexing, and the integrated evaluation of queries and vector predicates in the DuckDB system. The talk will be given in English.

This activity is organized by Claudio Gutiérrez, Full Professor at the Department of Computer Science (DCC) of the FCFM, Universidad de Chile, and Senior Researcher at the Millennium Institute for Foundational Research on Data (IMFD).
