XIII Society and Information Technologies Meeting: The Future of the Internet

SUMMARY

Due to the Pandemic and various social changes, Internet connection has become a service of prime necessity. Today many people are wondering what the Internet will be like in a few decades, as well as how the challenges that now exist in this area will be solved: security, privacy, data protection, democratic and fair access to the Internet, among other issues, will be discussed on January 14.

To analyze these and other aspects, Mundo Telecomunicaciones, in collaboration with the Faculty of Business Sciences of the Universidad del Bío-Bío (FACE UBB) and the Regional Government of Biobío, will hold the 'XIII Encuentro Sociedad y Tecnologías de la información', in the city of Concepción, with the presence of the Governor of Biobío, Rodrigo Díaz; and the presentations of Ricardo Baeza-Yates, Research Director of the Institute for Experiential Artificial Intelligence at Northeastern University in Boston; Miguel Pincheira, from the University of Trento - Italy; Sudha Jamthe, CIO IoT Disruptions; and Yolanda Martinez, expert in digital government and former representative of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Chile, among other prominent experts.

PRESENT

Ricardo Baeza-Yates
Senior researcher at IMFD and full professor at the DCC of the Univ. of Chile, he has a PhD in Computer Science, has worked in renowned companies such as the technology company NTENT and the multinational Internet company Yahoo, where he was Vice President of Research. He is currently Research Director of the Institute for Experiential Artificial Intelligence at Northeastern University in Boston, Professor at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona and full professor at the University of Chile.

Miguel Pincheira

University of Trento - Italy (online). Researcher at the Fondazione Bruno Kessler Research Institute (also in Italy), OpenIoT Unit, Italy.

Yolanda Martínez
Digital government expert and former IDB representative in Chile. Expert in development and digital government, passionate about public sector innovation, digital inclusion, govtech, the use of convergence of emerging technologies for social good, girls and women in technology. She has led multiple interdisciplinary teams for the design and delivery of digital services at local, federal and international levels. One of the 20 most influential people in the world in #DigitalGovernment by @Apolitical in 2018, president of Red GEALC 2017, co-founder of ConectadasMX, advisory board member of Laboratoria CL, judge of Technovation.

Former Executive Secretary - Digital Strategy of Chile, Computer Judicial Expert for the Chilean Judiciary and consultant for international organizations (IDB, World Bank, ECLAC, CAF, UNDP, FAO, among others).

Pablo Estevez - Past President IEEE Computational Intelligence Society
Pablo Estevez is a civil electrical engineer from the University of Chile and holds a PhD from the University of Tokyo. He is currently a full professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, where he held the position of director between 2006 and 2010. He is a member in the grade of Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers -IEEE-, and past president of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, during the period 2016-2017. In addition, he was general co-chair of the World Congress on Computational Intelligence, IEEE WCCI 2018, which was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, last July, and where more than 1500 attendees participated, including several academics and students from DIE and FCFM.

Pedro Campos - Economics and Data Science for the Future
Academician of the Department of Information Systems, Faculty of Business Sciences of the Universidad del Bío-Bío (UBB), and part of the Machine Learning Research Group of the UBB. Research and Postgraduate Coordinator of the Faculty of Business Sciences and member of the Research and Postgraduate Council of the Universidad del Bío-Bío.
