The Tech Transfer Unit of the IMFD carried out a Feasibility Study of a Monitoring System for the Impact of Hydrometeorological Events (ENANDES), a collaboration led by the National Meteorological Service in Chile. This initiative aims to improve the decision-making processes of the climatological services within the Andean community.
Given the widespread use of social networks during hydrometeorological events, we developed a technical feasibility study to analyze the application of a monitoring system based on publications shared on the X platform.
Large Language Models (LLM) techniques were applied to process a corpus of tweets, to categorize the content into informative or not, and other parameters.
The project also involved the design of an architecture for a monitoring software, which would allow data gathering, storage, processing and visualization, as well as the necessary infrastructure to carry out the project on a larger scale.
